The Return of Looking Ahead: Malaysia
The Sepang International Circuit
First raced in 1999 the Herman Tilke designed Sepang International Circuit has been the home of the Malaysian Grand Prix. Located 60km south of the capital of Kuala Lumpur the race is famous for having extreme weather changes throughout the race. The track can differ from furnace levels of heat to tropical downpours. This was shown in 2009 when a storm brought a race to a halt before 75% race distance had been completed meaning only half points could be awarded. The track itself is one of the widest in Formula 1 meaning there is plenty of Wheel2Wheel action to be had. The track consists of long, sweeping bends meaning aero is important here but must be balanced with speed as the track has a very long pit and back straight which, uniquely, are separated by one tight hairpin corner so position changes in this area are frequent. On the F1 2013 game this track is among the most notorious for high levels of tyre wear so tyre management is crucial and must be combined with consistency for anyone hoping to win this race.
The 2013 race was where the infamous "multi 21" was first used as Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber battled for the lead of the race. The drivers were instructed to hold position with Webber in first but Vettel chose to ignore those instructions and overtake Webber as shown in the above video. This lead to one of the most frosty podiums in Formula 1 history. The 2014 race was much simpler with Lewis Hamilton easily taking the win from teammate Nico Rosberg.
