Death of a football club. Empty Death of a football club.

90 years of footballing history has ended today as Hereford United FC were wound up in court today after failing to pay creditors. The club has endured a turbulent 2014. After being bought for £1 by a man named Tommy Agombar with lofty promises of restoring the club to football league glory the club faced a relegation D-Day match away at Aldershot in the Skrill Premier on the final day of the 2014 season which they won. Happiness didn't last long though as the club were subsequently thrown out for the 2014/15 season after failing to pay a £35,000 bond and were dropped 2 divisions to the Southern Premier. Financial troubles soon set in as it emerged former players, staff, rent paid to the local council and even HMRC had not been paid and the club has since been in court ten times facing a winding up order, the last appearance being today.

I appreciate in the wider footballing world this is a small club but it is a club I have been supporting for the last 20 years and is a stark reminder to everyone whilst clubs at the top levels are spending extortionate amounts of money on players, for some it is an achievement just to make it until next week.

I got a little bit excited when I saw the title, but I'm not that lucky.
